Trooper Joel R. Davis, 36, died on July 9, 2017, as a result of a gunshot wound. Trooper Davis was responding to a domestic dispute with shots fired in the town of Theresa in Jefferson County. As Trooper Davis approached the residence, he was shot once by the assailant and killed by a round that pierced his bullet resistant vest.
