State Police Investigate Fatal Structure Fire in the Town of Rochester

On July 12, 2026, at approximately 9:13 p.m., troopers out of State Police Ellenville barracks responded to a report of a structure fire at a single-family residence on Baker Road in the Town of Rochester.

The Accord Fire Department initially responded to the residence following the initial report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters were informed that occupant, identified as Joanne Carelli, 74, of Ellenville, and her dog were still inside the residence.

Following suppression efforts, the fire was extinguished. Carelli and her dog were located inside the residence and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit conducted a preliminary examination of the scene. At this time, there is no evidence of criminal activity.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
