The 79th Annual New York State Woodsmen's Field Days will take place August 21–23, 2026, at the Fairgrounds in Boonville, New York, continuing a tradition that has celebrated the forestry industry and the people who built it for nearly eight decades.
Held each year during the third full weekend in August, the event has grown into one of the premier lumberjack competitions in the United States. Competitors from across North America—and as far away as Australia and New Zealand—travel to Boonville to test their skills in a variety of traditional woodsmen's events. Throughout Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, spectators can watch professional lumberjacks and lumberjills compete in thrilling demonstrations of strength, speed, and precision. More than just a competition, the NYS Woodsmen's Field Days offers something for everyone. Visitors can explore hundreds of exhibits featuring forestry equipment, learn about the latest innovations in the logging industry, enjoy chainsaw carving demonstrations, watch safety presentations, and discover products and services geared toward both professional loggers and weekend firewood cutters.

Boonville provides the perfect backdrop for the annual event. Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, the picturesque community has deep roots in New York's logging history. Conveniently located along Route 12, Boonville is just an hour's drive from Syracuse, Utica, and Old Forge, making it an accessible destination for families and forestry enthusiasts alike.
Founded in 1948 by the Rev. Frank Reed, the NYS Woodsmen's Field Days began with a simple but meaningful mission: to promote the forest industry while honoring the hardworking lumberjacks whose labor helped shape the region. Today, that vision remains at the heart of the event. Supported by more than 400 dedicated volunteers, the nonprofit organization continues to preserve the traditions, skills, and heritage of the forestry profession while educating new generations about its importance.
As the forestry industry continues to evolve, the Woodsmen's Field Days stands as a tribute to its enduring legacy. Whether you're a lifelong logger, an outdoor enthusiast, or simply looking for an unforgettable summer weekend, the 79th Annual NYS Woodsmen's Field Days promises exciting competitions, educational exhibits, family-friendly entertainment, and a celebration of one of New York's proudest traditions.
