Marcy, NY – The New York State Police have launched an investigation into the death of an inmate at Mid-State Correctional Facility following a notification from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

The deceased inmate, Messiah Nantwi, 22, was pronounced dead at Wynn Hospital in Utica, NY. Authorities have not yet released details on the circumstances leading to his death as the case remains under active investigation.

The DOCCS Office of Special Investigations is assisting State Police in determining the cause and any potential contributing factors. Officials have stated that no further details will be made available at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Mid-State Correctional Facility, a medium-security prison located in Oneida County, has been the focus of scrutiny in recent years, with advocates calling for increased transparency and oversight in the treatment and conditions of incarcerated individuals.

As law enforcement continues its investigation, more information is expected to emerge in the coming weeks. CNY Online News will provide updates as details become available.
