In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Syracuse Police Department proudly recognizes retired Deputy Chief Rebecca Thompson for her 32 years of dedicated service and groundbreaking contributions to law enforcement.

Deputy Chief Thompson began her career in 1986 as a road patrol officer, steadily rising through the ranks to become a Police Captain. In 2010, she made history as the first female Deputy Chief of the Syracuse Police Department.

Throughout her career, Deputy Chief Thompson served in multiple key divisions, including Special Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Family Services Division, and as Commander of the First Platoon Patrol.

Her leadership, dedication, and commitment to justice have left a lasting impact on the department and the community. We thank Deputy Chief Thompson for her years of service and honor her as a trailblazer for women in law enforcement.
