Fatal house fire under investigation in Union Springs
On October 28, 2026, at approximately 8:33 p.m., New York State Police and the Springport Fire District responded to a reported house fire on Cayuga Street in the village of Union Springs, Cayuga County.
A preliminary investigation determined that two individuals were inside the residence when a fire broke out. One occupant was able to escape and alerted firefighters that another person remained inside.
Firefighters entered the residence and located a 68-year-old female unconscious. She was transported by Auburn City Ambulance to Auburn Community Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Forensic Identification Unit and Cayuga County fire investigators responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
