On April 25, 2026, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) arrested James M. Lewis, 46 of Binghamton after a dispute that resulted in another man sustaining serious injuries.
Lewis has been charged with:
• Robbery in the 1st degree, a class “B” felony
• Assault in the 1st degree, a class “B” felony
On April 24, 2026, just after 2 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to Carl Street in Endicott for a report of a male who had been struck multiple times by a baseball bat following a dispute.
The victim, a 48-year-old male of Binghamton, was transported by Union EMS to UHS Wilson Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. He is currently listed in stable condition.
An investigation determined that Lewis and the victim had previously traded e-bikes, with the victim expected to pay Lewis additional money. When the victim failed to provide the agreed-upon payment, Lewis waited for the victim to arrive on his e-bike on Carl Street, struck him multiple times with a baseball bat, and then left the area with the e-bike.
On April 25, 2026, members of the BCI located Lewis at a residence in the village of Johnson City. Lewis was taken into custody without incident, and the e-bike was recovered.
Lewis was processed at SP Endwell and then turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
