Schenectady pair arrested for felony drug possession after Thruway stop in Yonkers

On July 20, 2026, members of State Police Troop T, SP Tarrytown and Troop K Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Brad M. Columbus, 41, and Danielle Marie Ostrom, 37, both of Schenectady, on multiple felony drug possession charges.

At approximately 9:20 p.m. on July 20, 2026, troopers assigned to SP Tarrytown conducted a traffic stop on a 2017 Honda Civic in violation of vehicle and traffic laws on the New York State Thruway (I-87) northbound in the city of Yonkers. Troopers determined that the operator, identified as Columbus, was operating without a valid driver’s license. During the investigation, troopers located multiple glassine envelopes containing suspected fentanyl and approximately 2.3 grams of cocaine, along with several other varieties and amounts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. 

Columbus and his passenger, identified as Ostrom, were placed under arrest and transported to SP Tarrytown for processing. 

Columbus was charged with the following:

  • Penal Law 220.16 (01) criminal possession of a controlled substance, 3rd degree, intent to sell (felony)

  • Penal Law 220.09 (01) criminal possession of a controlled substance, 4th degree (felony) 

  • Penal Law 220.06 (05) criminal possession of a controlled substance, 5th degree (felony) 

  • Penal Law 220.03 criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th degree (six counts, misdemeanor )

  • Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations 

Ostrom was charged with the following:

  • Penal Law 220.16 (01) criminal possession of a controlled substance, 3rd degree, intent to sell (felony)

  • Penal Law 220.09 (01) criminal possession of a controlled substance, 4th degree (felony) 

  • Penal Law 220.06 (05) criminal possession of a controlled substance, 5th degree (felony) 

  • Penal Law 220.03 criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th degree (six counts, misdemeanor )

  • One vehicle and traffic law violation 

Columbus and Ostrom were arraigned in Yonkers City Court and released on their own recognizance.
