On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the New York State Police Troop F Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, along with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the Orange County Sheriff's Office, conducted a special enforcement initiative targeting overweight trucks, garbage trucks and dirt haulers.
During the initiative, law enforcement inspected 55 trucks, resulting in 34 out of service violations, which involve critical safety defects or legal violations. Members also issued 208 other commercial vehicle violations and 41 tickets. Most of the inspections occurred along State Route 17 in Orange County.
This targeted enforcement initiative is the result of a successful partnership that demonstrates a shared commitment to roadway safety. New York State's commercial vehicle laws mandate strict compliance with safety, weight and registration rules, and our enforcement initiatives help protect highway users from preventable dangers caused by unsafe or unsecured loads, weight violations and unsafe equipment.
